If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and (no one is going to attack and harm you,) because I have many people in this city." 11일 년 육 개월을 유하며 그들 가운데서 하나님의 말씀을 가르치니라 So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God. While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him into court. 13말하되 이 사람이 율법을 어기어 하나님을 공경하라고 사람들을 권한다 하거늘 "This man," they charged, "is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law." 14바울이 입을 열고자 할 때에 갈리오가 유대인들에게 이르되 너희 유대인들아 만일 무슨 부정한 일이나 괴악한 행동이었으면 내가 너희 말을 들어주는 것이 가하거니와 Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews, "If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law--settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things." 16저희를 재판 자리에서 쫓아내니 So he had them ejected from the court. Then they all turned on Sosthenes the synagogue ruler and beat him in front of the court. But Gallio showed no concern whatever.
While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there. A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean." 21모든 아덴 사람과 거기서 나그네 된 외국인들이 가장 새로 되는 것을 말하고 듣는 이외에 달리는 시간을 쓰지 않음이더라 (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.) Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.
When they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3뜻을 풀어 그리스도가 해를 받고 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아야 할 것을 증명하고 이르되 내가 너희에게 전하는 이 예수가 곧 그리스도라 하니 explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ," he said. Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women. But the Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd. But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, 7야손이 들였도다 이 사람들이 다 가이사의 명을 거역하여 말하되 다른 임금 곧 예수라 하는 이가 있다 하더이다 하니 and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus." 8무리와 읍장들이 이 말을 듣고 소동하여 When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go. |
